October is Inktober, at least if you follow artists on Instagram, facebook and Ello. Lately, despite being home with my youngest daughter still (she will start kindergarden in December) I’ve had the time to ease myself back into painting. I try to work when she is napping but most of my paintings happen at night when the kids are asleep.

The first painting is actually from last year but I found it on my computer as I was browsing through my recent work and decided I like it more now than when I first painted it so I’ll show it in honor of the recent superbloodmoon and inktober – but the last three are recent ink paintings on Fabriano paper.

I have officially started working since some time back but I need to take things slow, yet I have so much to do. Freelancelife is the best decision I’ve ever made, although recently I’ve started thinking about hooking up with an agency. I just don’t know much about it, but they seem to be doing the bits I like less, so I can focus on painting and drawing alone. If you have a favourite agency or any recommendations I’d be happy to hear from you as I am quite clueless on how to go about this.

Fall is my favourite season but it’s totally virus-season too, especially when you have kids in preschool.

I will probably keep a low profile this year out, but I expect to change gears and level up next year.

On one hand I can’t wait, on the other hand I’m totally rolling in the bliss of this soft pace and having so much time with my family. Life is good. Even when you suspect your little one came down with a stomach-flu-virus. Eeeek! Wish us luck!

Olander’s illustrations combine a lush painterly sensibility with a darkly playful take on girlish fun and the remixing of fantasy with the everyday.
